On 20th and 21st March, wildlife artist Colin Woolf will be holding a weekend course for budding artists wishing to improve - or even discover - their skills.

Based at a country guest house near Loch Lomond, participants will be able to enjoy the lovely surroundings while receiving expert advice and tuition from a professional artist. Colin Woolf recently moved to Central Scotland, and he believes that the carefully-chosen location is ideal for a relaxing but stimulating learning experience.

This won't be a traditional, structured art course, but instead it will reflect the individual aims and abilities of the participants. Colin explains: "I want to be able to pinpoint what each artist is trying to achieve, and help them to succeed in that goal. I'll be showing them how I create certain effects with watercolour, and I'll also be dispelling a few myths about what you should and shouldn't do! I'll be covering everything from the stretching of paper to the marketing of your finished work. It promises to be a very inspiring - and fun - weekend."

In addition to a day spent ‘in house' at the country hotel, the course will include a visit to Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre where participants can enjoy sketching and painting owls, eagles and falcons at close quarters. Here Colin will provide an insight into the the physical form of the birds, a knowledge which he strongly believes is crucial to any finished artwork. If weather conditions allow, the group will then move on to Loch Lomond shores, for guidance on how to paint wildfowl and water.

As an artist Colin is self-taught, and he achieved his skills the hard way - through painstaking trial and error. This means that he knows all too well the learning processes and challenges that aspiring artists must go through. Colin has been a professional wildlife artist for over 25 years, and exhibits regularly at the Scottish Game Fair and the CLA Game Fair; he has also held exhibitions in London and the Channel Islands, and his work hangs in collections world-wide.

The course is ideal for beginners, as well as people who already have a certain artistic ability but wish to take it further. Reservations are being taken now, and early booking is strongly recommended. Other dates may be available later in 2010. Full details can be found on Colin's website, www.wildart.co.uk, or you can request a leaflet and booking form by telephoning 01501 751796.
