Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) was founded in 1858 by citizens of Frankfurt with the purpose of creating of a zoo for the city. In the 1950s Prof. Bernhard Grzimek's pioneering work in Africa paved the way for the Society's current mission of global nature conservation. Today, FZS's nature and species conservation efforts include 80 projects in 30 countries in some of the world's most valuable ecosystems.
