The Ingwe Leopard Project

The ILP carries out research into leopard behaviour and numbers in Mpumalanga South Africa. This research is essential to help protect an animal about which there is insufficient data to accurately estimate numbers outside of game reserves. Incredibly, leopards are still hunted under licence throughout Africa and not recognised as being endangered.

We use GPS tracking collars to monitor leopard movement as well as camera traps (remote movement initiated cameras). Sponsorship for tracking collars is urgently needed. For a minimal cost, you can not only contribute towards leopard research but monitor leopards from your home computer via a web link.

Since 1999, we have recorded and monitored not only leopard movement but also other rare species such as the honey badger. Visit our website to see some of the amazing images we have captured.
