Wildlife at Risk (WAR)
Articles about the work of Wildlife at Risk
Wildlife At Risk (WAR) is dedicated to protecting the biodiversity of Vietnam by combating the illegal wildlife trade, raising environmental awareness and promoting the conservation of endangered species and their habitats.
The organisation was founded in 2001 and the Cu Chi Rescue Centre was offically opened in 2006. WAR was initailly launched to help tackle the ever growing problem of the illegal pet trade in Vietnam, mostly targeting Saigon.
WAR now also provides the Forest Protection Department somewhere to take the confiscated wildlife instead of dumping back into the wild or selling it back to traders. Theirr main aim is to rehabilitate endangered vietnamese wildife and reintroduce it back into suitable habitats.

- WAR & FTB have a new bear centre in Cat Tien National Park and a new Bear Rescue Facility in Hon Me, which could eventually house 200 bears.
Issues affecting Wildlife At RiskAs in all conservation work there are always going to be issues that slow down the process of protecting endangered wildlife & important habitats. Unfortunately in Vietnam there seem to be a lot deeming factors.
| bear bile farming - 4000 bears kept in VietnamINTERESTING FACT: It is 100% illegal to milk bears for bile yet it still happens all over Vietnam, there are around 600 farmed bears kept in cramped cages in Ho Chi Minh City & around 4000 bears in Vietnam, yet this barbaric trade still thrives & the government is very aware of it & very tolerable of it. |
