Volunteer for RSPB Leighton Moss
RSPB
Have you ever considered giving up some of your time to volunteer? Do you love nature and want to help protect it? Then why not consider spending some of your free time volunteering with the RSPB. On Saturday 17 October, staff at RSPB's Leighton Moss nature reserve in Silverdale will be holding a ‘Volunteering Taster' event to show you how you can get involved. This is a free event, running from 4.30 - 5.30 pm - everyone's welcome to come along and it will be a great opportunity to chat to volunteers about their experiences.
Jennifer Lear, volunteer trainee visitor officer says "You don't have to be a bird expert to volunteer with the RSPB. I didn't when I first started my 6 months as a residential volunteer at Leighton Moss, but I had a great enthusiasm for wildlife and learning new things. However, since volunteering my knowledge of birds and wildlife has really developed and I've had lots of fun along the way (including dressing up as a tiger for the Kendal torchlight procession). I am now nearing the end of my time here but I am taking with me new skills, knowledge and many friendships!"
Volunteering at Leighton Moss is a great opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills as well as helping nature. Work can vary from helping in the visitor centre or office to getting your hands dirty with our wardens. Whatever your skills and interests there will always be something for you to get stuck into.
"We are particularly short of volunteers in our café. If you can spare a few hours a week, I'd love to hear from you and I can tell you more about joining our friendly team! Give me a call on 01524 703016 or drop in to our event on Saturday" said Patrick Keating, catering manager
