24/06/2006 00:00:00 Blue Ventures is an award-winning not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to working alongside the local communities in Madagascar in an effort to conserve threatened marine habitats and resources. Funded mostly by ecotourism revenue, Blue Ventures takes paying volunteers to project locations and gives them training in scientific research, community outreach and on-the-ground conservation. Blue Ventures believes that carefully managed tourism can be a powerful conservation tool and that economic development can, and must, go hand in hand with environmental protection.
