Farmers forming large companies to facilitate badger culls12/10/2012 16:02:01
Wildlife Extra suspects that farmers are forming large companies to maintain their anonymity. October 2012. Natural England has issued a licence permitting the control of badgers in West Somerset for the purpose of preventing the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB). The application for a licence was made by a specially formed company representing farming and land management interests covering approximately 250km2 and over 70% of the West Somerset pilot area. Anonymous Natural England has issued the licence having satisfied itself that the application meets the strict criteria set out in the Government's bTB policy guidance, which specifies how control operations to prevent the spread of bTB can be carried out. The licence has a four year term and authorises control operations to be conducted within the West Somerset pilot area over a continuous six week period each year over the next four years. No control operations can be carried out during specified close seasons. Under the terms of the licence, and in accordance with the criteria specified in the bTB control policy, licensees will be authorised to reduce badger populations in the pilot area by at least 70% and maximum numbers will be specified to prevent the risk of local extinction. Control operations can only commence once Natural England has formally confirmed with the Licensee the specific dates when these operations will take place, the persons authorised to carry them out, confirmation that the necessary funds are in place, and the permitted number of badgers that will be subject to control operations. These formal confirmations are expected to be completed within the next few weeks. Gloucestershire

The whole idea of this UK badger cull is sickening. Once again, primal fears, unreasonable prejudice and plain backwardness are demonstrated to be more powerful drivers of human behaviour than reason and science.
Let them flock together in fear of the wrath of environmentalists. It only goes to show that they are well aware of the hideousness of what they are preparing for.
May they rot in hell.
Meanwhile, I will refrain from buying British if I can avoid it, and most certainly steer away from British dairy products. And I'm sure I'll find plenty of friends to join. One can go a long way understanding the twisted human mind, but that does not mean one has to settle for it!

I think what needs to be done is to re-introduce the apex preditors that use to prey on badgers. Bears and Lions, now wouldn't that create a hoop and a holler. I can understand why the outcry about badgers,I think it would be hard for anyone that has come face to face with one of these aggresive creatures would want them as far away from their farm with small kids as possable, forget the TB threat. That much I can understand, but culling???I would have to see some real facts and figures....

I use to milk on a farm in Cornwall. Cows were always being slaughtered because of the TB test...yet upon postmortem the cows showed no sign of the disease...get the test right first rule out all possibilities then look at the badgers...Oh and on the farm there were no badgers anywhere nor in the areas close by ..It will give people cartblanche to kill badgers where ever they are ...licenses are a joke !!! THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED NOW !
