Golden plover on the Begwns

Birds on the Begwns

April 2011.  I took a short, relaxing, walk on the Begwns, on the England-Wales border, last weekend. The Begwns are a beautiful corner of Powys, but very rarely visited and well off the beaten track. After a good close up view of a Red kite, and the derigeur spectacle of a buzzard being mobbed by crows, I stumbled on a small flock of around 15 Golden plover.

There is other wildlife to see on the Begwns, though June - September is the best time to see butterflies or the dozens of damselflies and dragonflies that haunt the lake and wetland areas.
