Gorilla permits in Rwanda to jump in price
You can save $250 by booking before the end of MayFebruary 2012. The bad news that Rwandan gorilla permit prices are rising by 50%, with each one to cost $750, has been followed by a caveat of good news. Namely, that this rise will only take effect for bookings made on 1 June and after. So, basically, if you want to snaffle a $500 permit, you still can - but don't leave it too long.
Why bother? Because Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is home to more than half of the world's mountain gorillas, that's why - in short, it's arguably the best place to see the iconic animals. Safari specialist Expert Africa (020 8232 9777, www.expertafrica.com) has a Mountain Gorilla Safari from £2,735 pp, including overnight flights (Heathrow), four nights' full board at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge in the Volcanoes National Park, private guiding and all activities. The pesky permit - at the current, $500 cost - is also included.
