Hotels to be built in Kruger National Park – And removed from Nepal’s Chitwan09/01/2012 14:25:39
Hotels are being moved from within the boundary of Chitwan National Park. January 2012. Plans have been revealed for two hotels to be built within the Kruger National Park in South Africa. There has been some consternation over the effect that 2 hotels would have on the park, with the disturbance caused by the building of the hotels and the extra tourism and traffic that they will generate. Wildlife needs to pay for itself if it wants to survive, and a couple of hotels will, hopefully, help make the Kruger sustainable. Wildlife Extra believes that hotels in National Parks are not necessarily a bad thing, but it depends heavily on how and where the hotels are built. The Kruger is, yes, the size of Wales, and already has some 20 camps plus a few lodges. There is obviously plenty of space for a couple more buildings, and as long as other resources can cope, there shouldn't be a problem. The first hotel in the Kruger National Park, The Radission Blu Safari Resort Kruger Park, is planned for opening in 2013. The 120-room new built property will be located on the Crocodile River in the southern border of the Kruger National Park (KNP), 10 kilometres from the Malelane Gate. Statement from Tiger TopsIt is true that our lease with the government to operate Tiger Tops inside the Chitwan National Park ends in July 2012. However, there has been no decision taken by the government to either renew or to end the lease. With an unstable political scenario in the country decisions taking process is often long winded and time consuming. We are doing our bit and lobbying with the government for a renewal and feel confident that we will be inside the Chitwan National Park after mid 2012. If, by any chance we are asked to leave then we are better placed than other lodges inside the park as we have a property called Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge outside the Chitwan National Park and likewise have another one called Tiger Tops Karnali Lodge and Tiger Tops Tented Camp outside/inside the Bardia National Park in the west of Nepal. The said lodges have been in operation for a quite a while and are perfectly equipped to deal with the transfer of business for Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge, Chitwan. According to the Wildlife Watch Group of Nepal, The Nepali Forest Ministry has started the process of moving seven hotels that are currently based inside Chitwan National Park to new locations outside the park boundary.
Nepal's Forest Minister, Mohammad Wakil, said that the decision was made in accordance with the end of two years contract of the hotels. The hotels inside the park are Tiger Tops, Island Jungle Resort, Machan Wildlife Resort, Temple Tiger, Chitwan Jungle Lodge and Safari Narayani Hotel. Gaida Wildlife Camp was closed a year ago because of its failure to pay the taxes.
