Winner of the UK Wildlife Photo Competition 2011 - By Peter Denness with a Canon EOS-1D mark 2, with a canon 300 ml 2.8 lens.

Canon cameras most popular amongst photo competition winners

December 2011. We recently published the winners and finalists from the UK Wildlife Photography Awards 2011. We have since conducted a survey of what cameras the winners and finalists were using. The results showed that, of 24 cameras used, 15 were Canon, 8 were Nikon, and 1 was, remarkably the winner of the bugs category, a Fujifilm.

The most popular camera was the EOS 1D, which was used by 5 of the winners and finalists; a camera that costs £2-5000 depending on which version you get.  In second place was the EOS 40D, a snip at £4-500. Nikon D200 & 300 both had a couple of users, and both are available for under £1000.

Peter Denness, the winner, used a Canon EOS-1D mark 2, with a canon 300 ml 2.8 lens.

You don't have to spend £££ to take great photos - Or go into the countryside
The remarkable damselfly photo below was taken by Agnieszka Dymek using a Fujifilm Finepix S9600, an almost outdated camera that can be bought for just £100 second hand - And it was taken in in the middle of a city of 1.5 million people - On Southampton Common.
