Some 150 Olive Ridley turtles died after being trapped in a single net in India. A local official blamed the fishermen from the village of Visakhapatnam for not taking preventive measures. Its so painful as these turtles will never be seen again, this kill has reduced their abundance which in turn will likely to affect their breeding cycles. Shimba-Tanzania.

It should be mandatory for Indian fishermen to install TED's (Turtle Excluder Devices) and be taught how to use them correctly. These "trap door" devices allow larger animals such as turtles and mammals to exit a net whilst targeted catch remains inside the net. They reduce bycatch (catch of non targeted species such as endangered sea turtles) by 97%. After this incident, it should be mandatory.

Think about all the turtles out there...hardly none. Who ever did this did not do a good thing for the enviroment.

150 turtles thats terrible that could be a whole breeding population of turtles wiped out in a oner when isw man going to stop killing every thing just because nets are a easy way of fishing does not mean its right . this picture makes me so mad and sad to see such a beautiful mammal to be killed like that. ITS GOT TO STOP THE PANET IS NOT JUST FOR MAN ALONE.
