The Purple thorn moth (Selenia tetralunaria) is common in the UK. Distinctive as usually rests with wings raised vertically above the body. Has two broods across most of UK (Except in north where just 1 brood), in April - May and again in July - August. The later brood tends to be slightly darker, and larger, the image here is taken in July.

Mostly found in woodland, common across Wales and southern England, rare in Ireland.
