Blue monkeys hunted in Rwanda

Blue monkeys are being hunted in the Kabaya Valley, South of Kibungo - By Jason Anderson

January 2010. On my trip to the Kabaya Valley, as well as lots of lovely wildlife, I came across a very disturbing sight. Blue monkeys live here in the trees amongst the papyrus beds. However one blue monkey had been killed and its skin was displayed on a long stick of bamboo, presumably to ward off other monkeys from coming towards the crops.

It is definitive proof that the people there are hunting the Blue monkeys. The fact that they were quite happy to put this skin onto display quite close to a communal grazing area, where many villagers saw it, is a fairly good indication that nobody locally is stopping them. The hunting of these monkeys is illegal.
