White sparrow near Nottingham
January 2012. Nicola Tyler, who lives south of Nottingham, took this photo of a leucistic house sparrow. Nicola said "The house sparrows which we see all year round have 1 or 2 in their brood every year."

Leucism (or Leukism)

Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures.
