Worst ever year for rhino poaching in South Africa

More rhinos have been killed in South Africa in the past 10 months than were killed in all of 2010, new poaching numbers reveal. Statistics from South Africa National Parks show that 341 animals have been lost to poaching so far in 2011, compared to a record total of 333 last year.

louis theroux - tigers in usa - comment

Of many low points, the 'mother' informing her chimp that she was going to "beat the shit out of it" was the most distressing. These animals are very close to our DNA in terms of intelligence but I felt sure the chimps were many steps ahead on the IQ front than their keepers.

Devil Ark giving hope to the Tasmanian devil

Devil Ark is a conservation project set up as an ‘insurance program’ for the Tasmanian devil which is listed as endangered. In January 2011, 43 Tasmanian devils were released at the newly developed breeding facility at Barrington Tops. By December 2011 the population will have doubled and should double again in 2012.
