Waitomo glow worm caves
The glowworm found in the caves at Waitomo, Arachnocampa luminosa, is endemic to New Zealand. Thousands of these tiny worms give off their spectacular luminescent light as you travel through a series of inter connected caves.
Access: It is only allowed to enter the caves with one of the expert guides that provide information on the Caves' historical and geological significance as well as the glow worms. The guides are well worth the trouble as they are very well versed. Visits end with a short boat trip through the Glowworm Grotto.

Location: Waitomo Caves are about 60 kms south of Hamiltion, off Statte Highway 3. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are situated 8km along Waitomo Caves Road.
