UK wildlife photography competition

The UK has some of the world's best wildlife, but not many people realise it. We want to promote the wildlife of the UK so we are asking you to send us your best shots of the UK's wildlife and we have lined up some decent prizes for the best in each category. We will also donate £500 to a UK wildlife charity to be nominated by the winner.

Prizes

  • The overall winner, as judged by Wildlife Extra, will win a bronze sculpture created by David Mayer, and will be able to nominate a UK wildlife charity to receive a £500 donation from Wildlife Extra.
  • Each category winner will win a Páramo Mountain Vent Pull-on
  • Each category runner-up will win a copy of Where to go wild in Britain

Categories

  • Mammals - Some 65 land mammal species occur in the UK, including bats, but how many can you see?
  • Birds - Plenty of choice at any time of year.
  • Insects & bugs - The most numerous, but are they the least photogenic?
  • Landscapes & nature reserves - Anywhere that wildlife can be seen, which is just about anywhere.
  • Reptiles & amphibians - With just 12 native species to choose from, probably the hardest category to compete in.
  • Marine life - On or under the sea, send us the best that the UK has to offer; fish, whales, dolphins, seals, coral or..... Surprise us.

Wildlife Extra will donate £500 to a UK wildlife charity, nominated by the winner.


How to submit your images

  • Pictures should be submitted by e-mail to editor@wildlifeextra.com, the emails should be entitled "UK wildlife photo competition", or by post to Wildlife Extra, Mill House, Brinsop, Herefordshire, HR4 7AX. We regret, we will not be able to return your images to you.
  • Images sent by email should be no more than 3 mega bytes
  • By submitting your images, you agree that Wildlife Extra and Paramo Ltd may use them in the future, free of charge unless you specifically request otherwise. By submitting your images you agree that any prize winning images may be used free of charge at any time by Wildlife Extra or Paramo.
  • Each picture should be accompanied by:-
    + The name of the photographer, address and contact number.
    + The category in which it is entered
    + Where the picture was taken
  • Please name your images in the following manner. name.subject EG johnbrown.tiger . If there is more than one omage of the same subject, then johnbrown.tiger1, johnbrown.tiger2. If you need a longer name, use a hyphen in the description. EG johnbrown.masai-mara


Rules for the Wildlife Extra UK wildlife photography competition.

  • By entering the competition, the entrant verifies that he/she has read the Rules and agrees to abide by them.
  • Your entry must be entirely your own original work, not defame anybody nor breach any copyright
  • All finalists will be required to provide all the details about their pictures. EG species, where, when and how the image was taken. Also details of equipment used. EG camera, lens, exposure, speed, and any other equipment.
  • Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work, for instance removing dust spots. Any image that appears to have had too much digital enhancement may not be considered by the judges.
  • If successful, the winning entrants agree to provide Wildlife Extra with the original file for the image and agree that it may be printed and used in a public exhibition of winning entries.
  • The competition is not open to employees, or immediate families of staff, of Wildlife Extra, or anyone professionally associated with this competition.
  • The competition closes on 31st October 2009 at midnight.
  • Winners will be notified by phone, email or via http://www.wildlifeextra.com/
  • Prizes will only be posted/delivered to UK addresses.
  • The winners will be picked by judges from Wildlife Extra - The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The prizes are non transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • The prizes will be posted to the winners within 1 month of the end of the competition
  • Wildlife Extra reserves the right to change or cancel this competition at any time.

  • If a winning entrant is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, Wildlife Extra reserves the right to either offer the prize to the next best entry or to withhold the prize.
  • Wildlife Extra reserves the right to disqualify any entry which breaches any of these rules or to withhold a prize if in its opinion entries do not reach the required standard.
  • The rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
  • Images of pets and domestic animals will not be considered
