Exploring Natural China

reviews/reviews_2010/natural_china_angel1 By Heather Angel - Published by Evans Mitchell Books

Heather Angel travelled to 13 different locations around China to capture the essence and diversity of this huge and often inaccessible country. Angel is an accomplished photographer, and there are some beautiful images, but I can't help thinking that she didn't really manage to get under the skin of the country and its nature. Angel seems to have stuck mostly to the main tourist routes, and much of the notable wildlife, especially the tigers, was photographed in captive conditions, though this, sadly, may be the only practical way of getting images of these animals in China.

The book is part travelogue, part travel guide and part photo book. This schizophrenia means it doesn't quite fulfil any of these 3 briefs satisfactorily. To large and heavy for a travel guide, too disjointed for a travelogue and not big enough as a coffee table book.

Having said that, if you want to see and photograph the wildlife and nature of china, there is probably no better book to set you on your way, and you won't break the bank if you buy it from Amazon (usually around £13.)

RRP £19.99. Available from Amazon for around £13
