Castle Vale Nature Conservation Area

Castle Vale Nature Conservation Area is located in the South Easterley Corner of the Castle Vale Estate in North Birmingham, Founded in 1991/2 by a local resident and now the Castle Vale Nature Conservation Group, chairperson, The area was developed by Birmingham City Council (Parks Department, it at present covers an area of about 5.4 acres and is made up of a variety of habitats, bordered by 2 descent size disused paddocks, which have developed into open mixed grassland and sanctuary for over 400 Redwings & Fieldfares most winters.

Wildlife highlights: CVNCA has 17 species of Butterfly and more than sixty species of Birds (Resident or visiting throughout the Year, with a lovely selection of wild flowers, trees and shrubs.

We have a couple of developing wetland scrapes and close by, brooks and watercourses, which are graced with Kingfishers, Little Grebe, Grey Wagtail, and the occasional water vole, to name but a few.

Location: Located on the edge and adjacent to Severn Trent Minworth Sewage Works and the River Tame, 5 minutes from M6 JNC 5. 

After Reaching Castle Vale, Link up with Farnborough Road, Follow Farnborough Road to a large residential nursing home called The Ridings; access road to conservation Area is adjacent to the Home.

Nearby: Linked to the Conservation Area, is a nature trail, cycle path, called Project Wagtail, this walk networks in and around the estate, offering a number of other natural and managed habitats for wildlife, including a couple of magical places if you can find them
