Granllyn Pool

Granllyn Pool is a very special place. Home to the largest breeding colony of rare great crested newts in mid-wales, Granlynn Pool is designated a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Granllyn Pool itself is a shallow lake, no more than two metres deep, with a peat bottom which supports a variety of aquatic plants including sallow, bur reed, yellow flag iris bulrush and bottle sedge.

Wildlife highlights: Granllyn Pool has a diverse range of habitats including damp woodland, new woodland creation and grassy orchard. As well as the Great crested newts, these have already become home to fantastic birdlife including bullfinch, goldfinch, marsh tit, great-spotted woodpecker and reed bunting.
