Attingham Park

uk/2012/art_tree_wx The mansion is at the heart of this great estate between Shrewsbury and the River Severn and is set in beautiful parkland designed to impress.  Attingham is host to around five miles of the rivers Severn and Tern and many ponds which are a haven for wildlife of all sorts, from otters to dragonflies.

Wildlife highlights: Veteran trees supporting nationally-important wood decay fauna, fallow deer in deer park, otter, bats, breeding waders, wetland invertebrates. Barn Owl, raven and buzzard are the top predators here. Green, Great and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers are all present, and at least 5 bat species including over 1000 pipistrelles.

Walk through the Deer Park to see our 200 fallow deer. From 19 November to March watch the deer being fed at 2pm Saturdays, Sundays and everyday in the Christmas and half term school holidays, (except Christmas day).

Attingham is home to a historic listed Bee House, complete with bees in old fashioned straw skeps. Get up close and personal with the bees in a brand new observation hive in the walled garden.

Location: on B4380, 4 miles south-east of Shrewsbury
