Bentley Community Woodland
Bentley Community Woodland 93 hectares of industrial and inaccessible slagheap from the old Bentley Colliery that has been converted into a beautiful woodland. The site is mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland and includes a 12-hectare wetland that hosts a variety of wildfowl and seasonal migrants.
Bentley Community Wood is owned by the Land Restoration Trust and managed by the Forestry Commission. Over 100,000 trees were planted and a 12 hectare (30 acre) wetland area created, along with water courses and reed beds.
Wildlife: Water voles have been confirmed at Bentley Wood. Common woodland and wetland birds, butterflies and dragonflies.
Location: From Doncaster take the A19 towards Selby. At the roundabout in Bentley take the second exit off the roundabout towards Arksey. Take the third turning on the left onto the Avenue. Follow to the end, main car park found on the left hand side of the road.
Access: 3 miles of trails around the woodland are perfect for horse riding, cycling or just a relaxing stroll.
