Blasket Island wildlife

uk/blasket_islands Having lived on the Great blasket Island in the 70s and 80s and worked as lobster fisherman around the islands for more than 20 years, skipper Mick Sheeran has gained an in-depth knowledge of the waters and the wildlife around the Blasket Islands.

On his Eco Marine Adventure Tours abord MV Blasket Princess (with a flying bridge for watching wildlife) he brings his passengers on scenic wildlife boat trips and uses his intimate knowledge of the local marine environment to locate visiting and resident marine species and birdlife.

Amongst the most frequently observed species are grey seals, basking sharks, common, bottlenose and risso's dolphins, minke whales harbour porpoises and sunfish, with an occasional sighting of humpback and killer whales.
The islands support breeding colonies of puffins, arctic terns, manx shearwater, storm petrels, kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills and fulmars.

Booking is essential for the tours. Email info@blasketislands.ie or ring
087 2316131/ 066 9154864.

Mick Sheeran also runs a daily ferry service abord MV An Blascaod Mór from Dunquin, the most westerly harbour in Europe, to the Great Blasket Island.
