Cole Valley
The River Cole Valley is a 7 mile corridor of woodlands, parks, lakes, grasslands, wetlands, ponds and the river itself, running through the east of Birmingham and the suburbs. The valley contains several nature reserves and country parks, such as Shard End, Sheldon Country Park, The Shire Country Park, and York Woods Nature Reserve. There are many opportunities for walks along the valley, and connecting with neighbouring areas too.
Highlights: Herons, kingfishers, teal, widgeon, skylarks, Greater spotteed woodpecker, sparrowhawk, otters, water voles.
Location: Get the train to Marston Green railway station, or head for one of the parks or reserves listed below.
