This 90 hectare ancient woodland is also a historically important site as it contains one of the 10 largest hill forts in the UK. Dominated by conifers, there is also some natural woodland, and a ring of yew trees along the ramparts of the hill fort. Credenhill has been designated as a special wildlife site.

Highlights: The ramparts of the fort are surprisingly large, and have a footpath all the way around the top.

Deer are common here, (Muntjac, roe and especially fallow) and raptors that can be seen here include buzzards, goshawk and kestrel. Many woodland birds are common and moths thrive in the mix of habitats.

Location: A few miles west of Hereford, the car park lies on the small road that connects the villages of Credenhill and Burghill.

Grid reference: SO450445.

NB There is an excellent pub, The Bell, just to the north of the woods, at the Burghill end of the road.
