Ecos Nature Reserve, Co. Antrim

A 24 ha site – situated on the eastern outskirts of Ballymena.

The reserve is largely damp grassland dominated by rushes but also includes lake shoreline, the Devenagh Burn and dry grassland. Extensive bird list includes; lapwing, curlew, skylark, grasshopper warbler, song thrush, bullfinch, linnet and reed bunting with breeding snipe and occasional records of garganey, scaup, hen harrier, merlin, wood sandpiper, white-winged black tern, hoopoe, whinchat and waxwing. Invertebrates include rare Irish centipedes, with mammals including otter, Irish hare and Leislers bat.

The reserve is open to the public and there is a network of paths suitable for wheelchair users.
