Haugh Woods

Haugh Woods at nearly 350 hectares is nationally important for butterflies and moths, with over 600 species recorded within it. This makes the wood one of the top 10 woods in the country and is designated as a SSSI due to the presence of these invertebrates.

There are two butterfly trails laid out on the paths in Haugh Woods.

Haugh Woods is adjacent to Broadmoor Common Nature Reserve which is also a good spot for butterflies, and some unusual birds.

Access & Facilities
There is a car park in the centre of the woods. There is a network of footpaths throughout the woods, and 2 butterfly trail which are reasonably flat and suitable for whhelchairs in dry weather.

There are 2 good pubs, the Crown Inn and the Butchers Arms, in the nearby village of Woolhope.
Location
Haugh Wood lies just to the south-east of Hereford, between the villages of Mordiford and Woolhope. There is a car park right in the middle of the woods.

There are several footpaths through the woods.

Butterflies of Haugh Wood
In order for everyone to enjoy the butterflies of Haugh Woods, Forest Enterprise and Butterfly Conservation have set up two trails through the woods. The trails mainly follow hard forest tracks and traverse gentle slopes. Along the trail are information boards describing some of the butterflies that may be see on the walk.
