Holburn Lakes and Moss

Holburn Lakes consists of 130 hectares  peat bog with an artificial lake supporting greylag geese. Holburn is an SSSI and Ramsar site. The artificial lake, created in 1934, is of international importance for the Icelandic population of greylag geese, as a winter roosting site.

Wildlife Highlights: Greylag geese are the main attraction, but wigeon, teal, shelduck, shoveler, tufted duck, snipe, lapwing, oystercatcher and red grouse can all be seen.

Location and access:
Parking is available in Holburn village. The track east of Holborn village alongside the farm leads up to the reserve. The lake is situated at the top of the hill. The track is rough and not suitable for wheelchair users.
