Kilcoole Nature Reserve, Co. Wicklow
Kilcoole Nature Reserve consists of seasonally flooded wet grassland behind a shingle beach/railway embankment. A number of marshy pools persist into early summer after the winter floodwater recedes. The reserve is part of Kilcoole Marsh, with its brackish lagoons and salt marshes
Highlights: Pale-bellied Brent and Greylag Geese winter here as well as a variety of waders. In spring and autumn, the pools attract a variety of passage waders. Rare migrants seen on or in the vicinity of the reserve have included Water Pipit, Lesser Yellowlegs and Night Heron.
Location: 2 km east of Kilcoole, south of Greystones on the east coast of Co. Wicklow. Park in the coastal car park at Kilcoole, the reserve is best viewed from the path above the beach
