Little Breach Butterfly Reserve

A small 0.7 hectare patch of heath grassland, meadow and woodland edge. Part of the Blackdown and Sampford Commons Site of Special Scientific Interest. This reserve comprises two small meadows between the heathland common and adjoining forestry. They support a varied grassland cover with stands of bracken and scrub, as well as outgrown hedgerows.

Highlights: Silver-washed Fritillary, Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Green Hairstreak, Marbled White, Small Copper.

Moths: Emperor; Scarlet tiger.

Location: From Nicholashayne, south west of Wellington, follow minor road south towards Woodgate. Turn left after quarter of a mile at crossroads up track. Park at Purchas Farm. Follow bridleway north-east, turning east at the top of the hill.
