Loch Ruthven is a beautiful, tranquil loch is fringed by sedges and birch woods. Visit in early spring, when the rare Slavonian grebe looks its best in gorgeous red and golden plumage, and spend time in the hide and watch their fascinating behaviour. Most of the UK's tiny population of Slavonian grebe live here.
Wildlife highlights: Slavonian Grebe, black and red throated diver, curlew and osprey.
Location: Loch Ruthven lies 16 miles south-west of Inverness. Turn west off the A9 on the B851 towards Fort Augustus then, after eight miles, turn right at Croachy on to the unclassified road (reserve is signed). The reserve lies one mile along that road.
