Lucas Marsh Nature Reserve
Lucas' Marsh covers just 1.5 hectares but is very rich in biodiversity. It forms part of Brock's Hill Country Park. The marsh developed as a result of quarrying and excavation. Habitats include a reedbed, ponds, rough grassland, dense scrub and scattered trees.
Dogs are not allowed on this nature reserve due to the sensitive wildlife.
The reserve is leased and managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Wildlife highlights: Blue-tailed and large red damselflies, moorhens, kingfisher, robin, wren, chiffchaff, song thrush, blackcap, willow warbler, bullfinch, great spotted woodpecker, blackbird, fieldfare and redwing.
Butterflies: small tortoiseshell, peacock, speckled-wood, orange-tip and ringlet butterflies visit the reserve.
Access & Parking: Park in the Environment Centre car park of Brock's Hill Country Park. Walk along the track and the entrance to the reserve is through a gate on the right.
