The Northumbrian wilderness becomes the only location in England for over 170 years where more than a single pair of naturally re-colonising ospreys have bred successfully at the same time. The new birds have nested on an artificial platform erected by the Forestry Commission on top of a tall spruce tree.

England's rarest mammal, the pine marten, is living in the Forestry Commission's Grizedale Forest in Cumbria. DNA tests have provided the first unequivocal evidence for 10 years that this shy and elusive animal is in the Lake District.

The ospreys are back. EJ has arrived at Loch Garten, and the romantically named 03(97) is back at his nest at Rutland Water, and other ospreys have been sighted all over the UK, but as yet there is now sign of the 'Lady of the Loch', the amazing 25 year old bird from The Loch of the Lowes.
