Ningwood Common Nature Reserve
Ningwood Common Wildlife Reserve is a mix of clay heath, grassland, scrub and adjoining woodland. Careful restoration of the grassland is taking place to favour the flowers and the rare Reddish Buff moth for which the site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Grazing is being reintroduced to ensure the survival of the many grassland flower species.
Highlights:
Red Squirrels frequent the Oak woodland along with the more secretive Dormouse. The scrub areas provide ideal habitat for Nightingales. Numerous butterflies and moths inhabit the reserve including the Small pearl bordered fritillary.
Location and access:
The reserve is open to the public free of charge. The footpaths are not surfaced and can be muddy in wet weather. Solent Road, Cranmore, Isle of Wight.
