Northwich community woodlands & Neumann's Flash "Stilt watch"
A network of country parks, woodlands, meadows, waterways and open water lying just to the north east of Northwich covering some 350 hectares. Marbury Country Park, Anderton Nature Park, Witton Hill Meadow, Dairy House Meadow, Ashton and Neumann's Flashes, Furey Wood, The Weaver Navigation, The Trent and Mersey canal and Budworth Mere all combine to make up an extensive area of wildlife habitat.
Wildlife Highlights
The Northwich Community Woodlands combine a rich and wide variety of habitats. More than 200 species of birds (In 2008, black-winged stilts bred here ! Only the 7th time they have been recorded breeding in Britain) have been recorded, as well as a wide variety of mammals and nearly 50 species of butterflies and dragonflies as well as a huge variety of moths and beetles.
Birds
Bittern, heron, little egret, little grebes, tufted duck, kingfisher, gadwall, dunlin, redshank, ringed plover, water rail, sedge and reed warblers, sanderling, 5 species of owls, Honey-buzzard, Red Kite, Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Hobby, Goshawk, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine and even the occasional passing osprey have all been recorded.

Butterflies
Large & small white, large, small & dingy skipper, orange tip, peacock, speckled wood, wall, small heath, purple hairstreak, peacock and holly blue are amongst the species recorded here.

Follow signs to Marbury Country Park from Northwich town centre, or it is a short walk from the town centre to the woodlands.
