Puffin Island bird reserve
Puffin Island is narrow steep-sided island situated off the south west coast of Kerry. It is 1 mile long and rises 145 metres from the sea with spectacular cliffs.
Highlights: Puffin Island is of international importance for its seabird colonies, most notably its Puffins (5,000-10,000), Manx Shearwaters (c.20,000) and Storm Petrels. There are also several hundred pairs of nesting Razorbills, Guillemots and Kittiwakes
Location: 7 km south-west of Valentia
Access: Day visits to the island from Valentia can be arranged by contacting Des Lavelle (Tel: 066-9476124).
