RSPB Grassholm
Grassholm is a remote offshore island supporting approximately 32,000 pairs of breeding gannets. Grassholm is thought to be the third largest Atlantic gannet colony in the world, (behind St Kilda and Bass Rock), supporting some 12% of the entire world population.
As one of only 23 gannet colonies in the UK and Ireland, Grassholm is of both national and international importance. It is an outstanding seabird spectacle, unrivalled anywhere in Wales for this species.
Access
It is not permitted to land on Grassholm Island, but various boat operators around Pembrokeshire will take you close to the shore where the spectacle is quite stunning. You can now join an RSPB guide on a boat trip around the amazing Grassholm Island. Whilst you can't land, it is possible to go around the island, in order to experience what is one of the most awe-inspiring wildlife spectacles in Wales. Thousand Islands Expeditions is running a new trip, in conjunction with the RSPB, which combines a trip round Grassholm with an afternoon on nearby RSPB Ramsey Island.
