Tamar Estuary Nature Reserve

Expansive mudflats stretching to the sea are plodded over, waded through, and pecked at by some thrilling bird species at this estuary, one of the largest mudflats in the south west.

Highlights: Look for plummeting streaks of turquoise as kingfishers dive for their prey, and avocets skimming the surface of the water with their delicate bills. Shelduck are resident here, as well as numerous waders, so it is worth checking the tide times before you visit.

Location: Foreshore can be reached from Cargreen village.
Grid reference: SX 431 614

Access: Open: Year round, entrance free.

There are viewpoints that are wheel chair accessible
