John Mc Sparran Memorial Hill Farm, Glendun, Co. Antrim

A 80 ha site – situated in Glendun.

The reserve is open to the general public.

The farm, which has organic status, is within Antrim Coast and Glens AONB. The unimproved grassland, rush pasture, heather moorland, blanket bog, scrub, hedgerows, woodland and part of the Glendun River supports a variety of species including hen harrier, red grouse, skylark, mistle thrush, song thrush, grasshopper warbler, spotted flycatcher, starling, and house sparrow. Other interesting birds include dipper, golden plover and whinchat. Notable mammals include red squirrel, otter and Leislers bat. The reserve is important for wax cap fungi, including the pink meadow cap. A number of lichens rarely recorded in Ireland occur on the farm. The reserve is managed as a traditional hill farm.
