Whinlatter Forest Park
The 1200 hectare Whinlatter Forest Park is England's only true mountain forest; as high as 790 metres above sea level, Whinlatter offers spectacular views of the Lake District and into Scotland.
From May to September it is usually possible to watch the wild Bassenthwaite Ospreys nesting and raising their chicks through the live video nest link. Whinlatter is also home to a large population of red squirrels, and in April 2008 became a flagship Red Squirrel Reserve.
