Whitlaw Mosses

These wetland jewels are tucked into the troughs of the Selkirk landscape. Each site has its own unique feel. They range from lichen rich willow scrub to open moss carpets, feathery sedge swamps to sweet smelling herb meadows and butterfly favoured grasslands.
The sites are small and fragile, with moss surfaces that can be deceptive and dangerous.

Highlights

Butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, lichens and mosses.

16 species of butterflies have been recorded, includingdark green fritillary and Scotch argus.

Location

Two miles east of Selkirk or five miles west of St Boswells. The four sites lie immediately north of the A699 road. Small car park by Lindean Reservoir which is next to one of the sites.

Take great care on the Mosses – remain on firm ground wherever possible.
