The wonderful variety of habitats make Sydlings Copse in east Oxon one of the best botanical sites in the Midlands – over 400 plant species have been recorded here. Reedbed, fen, a stream, ancient woodland, heath, limestone grassland and sandy soil are all packed into the steep valley.
Highlights: The reserve is teeming with bird and insect life. Mammals such as badgers, deer, foxes and bats also make their homes here. Location:
3 ½ miles north-east of Oxford. From Headington roundabout, take Bayswater Road north through Barton; turn left on B4027; after 500 m, park opposite Royal Oak Farm and tea room; take bridleway for 600 m, passing two small woods; reserve on right 100 m from bridleway. Parking on soft verge, 600 m.
