WWT Washington

Set in 100 acres of stunning wetland and woodland on the River Wear, Washington Wetland Centre is one of the North East's biggest conservation success stories.

Its wild reserve is home to a nesting colony of nearly 50 Grey Herons, while Hawthorn Wood Hide offers spectacular views of woodland birds including Great-Spotted Woodpecker and Bullfinch.

Opens daily 9.30am-5pm (4pm November - March). Closed Christmas Day only.
