Whale watching in Hervey Bay, Australia, latest reports.

August 2006. Hervey Bay is now into our fourth week of the season and whale sightings have been in big numbers every day, probably the largest number of humpbacks that have been seen for many years. This week the vessel Quick Cat II had a pod of seven humpbacks swimming around it in what is known as a 'mugging'.

Hervey Bay is unique for this type of activity as the whales are not in their migration mode and will on many occasions stay with the vessels for hours on end. At the moment it is estimated that over fifty whales are in the bay. Whale watching in Hervey Bay is more popular than ever, especially now that the direct flights have started from Sydney.

The Hervey Bay whale watching season will continue until at least November.

Brian Perry started Hervey Bay Whale Watch 20 years ago and has won many awards, especially since introducing their new vessel, the new ‘Quick Cat 2’. Click here for more details.
